Any advice/tips for traveling in a vehicle with a cat?

We are taking our cat to Florida with us to visit friends. We live in Michigan. Our friends have a dog, but the two have 'met'. Any advice on how to keep our cat comfortable/calm for the ride?Any advice/tips for traveling in a vehicle with a cat?
Get a good sized kennel that will hold a litter box along with a small food dish and a water dish that mounts onto the front of the cage - or stop and offer water if you think the water might just be spilled. Make sure you introduce your cat to the concept of riding in a cage before you take off for a long trip. Short trips around the block should help your cat get aquainted with the idea. Make sure your cat has a collar with identification tags on it (or a microchip). An escaped cat can't tell anyone how to get hold of you - make sure you put a number to contact you where you are going to be. Your home number isn't much use if you are in Florida.

Your cat might not remember the dog so be slow in reintroducing the two - a kennel to hide in is a good idea and a good investment. Don't let your cat out of the Florida home to get lost. Either it must stay in or be on a leash for safety. Better safe than sorry.

We travelled across Canada twice with our cats. I don't think kennels were even invented then. Our cats were used to going in the car/truck/van and we never had any problems. Okay one problem - water. We tried to bring as much water from home as possible (I still do when we go camping) but maybe bottled water has solved this problem now. Strange water and the runs do not make happy cats.Any advice/tips for traveling in a vehicle with a cat?
Here is a great video that I found on you tube that might be able to help answer your question better:

I would also suggest that you start as soon as possible to get your cat ready for a ride in his/her pet crate. Start by making small trips around the block and be sure to give your cat a nice treat as a reward when you get home from the short trip. As long as your cat is comfortable with his/her carrier, you should'nt really have any problems.
I just moved out of state with 2 cats who had to drive with us. I would recommend going to your vet and getting some kind of medicine that will make it tired and sleep on your way. We put our cats in a big kennel and put food, water, and a small litter box. Hope this helps and good luck!!
