How do I transition successfully without losing all of my hair in the process? Advice/tips.?

I've been transitioning to natural hair since February. I've never had trouble with breakage, but my hair was usually fragile after I permed it (during my perming days). It would take a few days for it to recover, but the fragileness was always there. As a protective style to help me transition, I did single braids last month. But before I did it, I washed my hair a day before and while washing it, I noticed it coming out a lot (this has never happened before). So I single braided it to get it out of my way and covered up. I took the braids out a few days ago and even though I got my mom to trim a good chunk of my hair before washing it, I still had a lot of breakage then too. So I just need advice on what I should do to transition successfully w/o losing all of my hair in the process. I've come a long way already and don't want to go back to perming. How often should I do protein treatments and what are good products to use? How about deep conditioning, moisturizing? Thanks. How do I transition successfully without losing all of my hair in the process? Advice/tips.?

sounds as if you have elasticity problems. first hair is at its most fragile state when wet. never brush then use a large tooth comb and start from the bottom. go easy do not pull at it. let it dry before braiding it less pressure on the shafts.trim it every 4 weeks use leave in conditioners everyone looses about 100 hairs a day this is normal shedding.you can over protein your hair it will go from bad to good to DRY AND BRITTLE really fast. just keep conditioning and trimming away the old perms
You seem to have a good routine going. As long as the braids are not done tightly. Your hair may just be trying to recover from the damage and is quite fraile. If you continue to have breakage, then you may want to see a dermatologist, it may be your scalp.
You do not want to risk losing all your hair, if you are experiencing ALOT of hair loss go see your doctor and pay a visit to a good hair salon so that they can see the condition of your hair and recommend something that will stop the breakage as well as prevent more breakage, we can not see the condition of your hair so we can not really recommend what to do or use. it could be one of many things causing this problem
I've found that when I don't wash my hair every day AND wear my hair up/back, it doesn't allow the normal daily shedding of hair that you probably wouldn't notice. That's why I'd see a bunch more hair come out when I'd shampoo and condition in the shower. I think it's perfectly normal. We all shed hair every day and when it's ';confined'; by a braid or hair-tie, it's hard for the scalp to let the hair fall out naturally.

What are the best health tips and advice for pregnant women in the first month of pregnancy and beyond.?

my lovely wife is pregnant and I want to ensure she's in the best possible condition for her and the baby, i know folic acid is important, are there any other supiments worth considering? What are the best health tips and advice for pregnant women in the first month of pregnancy and beyond.?
So long as she takes her prenatal vitamins and eats healthy she will be fine. It is just as hard on the husbands during the first trimester as it is the wives. She will be going through so many physical and emotional changes that sometimes you will wonder if she is still the same woman you married. But fear not. Just make sure that you are there for her and are supportive of her no matter what and you two will be just fine. Pregnancy can be a wonderful time that you will always treasure or a horrible time that you hope and pray will never happen again. It all depends on how you perceive it. You sound like a loving husband and she is a very lucky woman. No matter how tough things get just remember this is hers and your chance to assist God in a miracle. Congratulations, and good luck!!!!What are the best health tips and advice for pregnant women in the first month of pregnancy and beyond.?
diet care is most imp in first trimester it should be rich in proteins iorn and vitamins. give her lot of vegitables and fruits to eat. She can do routine household activities but dont have active exercise. Most imp keep in touch with ur doctor regularly and get all ur investigation done. Be sure that she is not anaemic ( most commen %26amp; serious medical problem during pregnancy).

If she get any per vaginal discharge ( whittish/ blood stained) report immidiatly to doctor. Bloody discharge in 1st trimisterster is a sign of beginning of spontanious abortion which can be stoped if treated immediatly. White discharge with or without itching is a sign of infection. Give her complet bed rest in 2nd %26amp; 3rd trimister. You can have sexual intercourse with ur wife occaisionally in first 3mthssometimes but try to avoit it from 5th mth, but never in last 3mth of pregnancy.Take care that she does not became ill during her pregnancy.
Take your pre-natal vitamins and exercise.
Do not Vacuum cause of the side to side moving of the belly. I know every woman is different but just as a caution. Take iron pills if you are low in iron. Congratulations...

  • I'm going snowboarding for basically the first time this weekend, any tips or advice?

Share some stories and tips from snowboarding/skiing. And what hills do you think I should start on if I'm not taking lessons but have a generally good idea of what to do?I'm going snowboarding for basically the first time this weekend, any tips or advice?
Don't eat yellow snow.I'm going snowboarding for basically the first time this weekend, any tips or advice?
definitely get a lesson. most people who just start without getting a lesson usually get frustrated bc they think it will be easy but it's not. i had a lesson my first few times and don't know what i woulda done without them. start on the beginner hill. if you think you knwo what to do, you probably don't bc it's harder than it looks. just try the beginner hill (green) and if you master it, then start going down some blues.

i fell down soo much my first time, and had a billion bruises the next day. but it's totally worth it!! good luck
just take a group lesson- they're cheap. dont fall when you're getting on the lift, its idiots like you that make the lift stop like every 4 seconds.

    JUST KIDDING!

you'll do fine! wear warm pants under snow pants because with skiing you're never on your butt so it doesnt matter but snowboarding, you'll basically be sitting down in the snow for most of the time.
You should not even think about going without wearing a helmet. The first time that I went snowboarding, my best friend tried it too. He spent the night in a hospital because he hit his head against a tree or some ice. Buy a helmet and use it. Spend at least 30 min. before and after snowboarding stretching because it will help keep your body from being in SERIOUS pain from the falls that happen to everyone who tries the sport.
This was the first bit of information I was told when I went.

If your going to, turn and roll, do not catch yourself with your hands, you will break your wrists.

No matter how many times and how hard ya fall, get up and keep going. It's a great sport!

    Enjoy and good luck! =]
I think you should try snowboarding first I ski but have been skiing since i was too. my friend says snowboarding is much easier

And stay On Trails that are rated circles and squares there very easy
Wear a tailbone pad, it will take many direct hits. Figure skaters wear them during training.

    Wear a helmet too.
    Get a Lesson!

You can't start this sport without first knowing the proper techniques.

Snowboarding is funner, but it is not easier. It requires a lot more work to learn. But in the end its worth it because of how much fun you have
take lessons. don't try to learn by yourself unless you have somebody really good teaching you.

What tips or advice do you have for someone opening up a fast food restaurant in a crime infested neighborhood

get a good security system..What tips or advice do you have for someone opening up a fast food restaurant in a crime infested neighborhood
    - Alot of cameras

    - Hire a off-duty cop

    - choose a location next to a major store(which would probably have security guards themselves)

    - Don't open late at night (that will depends on which fast food chain you're getting in)

    - If you open late at night, only do drive-through

    - Set up metal bars for the doors %26amp; windows(if your chain allows that)What tips or advice do you have for someone opening up a fast food restaurant in a crime infested neighborhood
    don't....

okay seriously....have paid security first and foremost.....second, bullet proof windows, never have less than 3 visible people working a shift, especially at night. have a drop safe able to be open by only 1 or 2 managers during the day only. post signs in very visible places to that effect....install a panic button that employees can use to summon the police in the even of a robbery...train train train your employees on saftey in the event of a robbery. Hire people you can trust and you feel comfortable with.

    Good luck!

What are your parenting tips and advice that make your life easier?

Wearing your baby makes shopping, cooking, cleaning easier! What are your parenting tips and advice that make your life easier?
Its not about advice, its about showing your child that they can come to you with any questions or problems. You must know that you cannot over react to curtain things but instead show your child was is right or wrong. My parents never gave me advice when i came to them they always should me the pros and cons to every situation and told me to make my own decision since I would at the end away, and that made me a very Strong person today. What are your parenting tips and advice that make your life easier?
being organised and having a routine BUT also being flexible

    don't sweat the small stuff!!

use your parents/in laws for advice and babysitting - even if its just for an hour

LAUGH!! even if you're covered in poop and spew

COMMUNICATE with your partner. about the kids and about everything else. don't lose your adult conversation skills.

get outside at least once a day - go for a walk, take the kids to the park or the beach - just get some fresh air into you and them
I am not a parent, but I think I have a lot of aspects from life. I would always teach my kids to be respectful and polite no matter what. This includes saying 'thank you' or 'may i?' or 'please'. It's so important because some kids nowadays are so immature. I would teach them to strive for success, but won't be tough on them if they can't do it well. I'll always support them no matter what they do and guide them through life on every occasions. I would never try to control their every move or be too worried over nothing. I will trust them and love them no matter what. If I trust them, they will trust me and I'm sure communicating is very important! =)
Wow... I wish I had an answer to this one. But 4 boys and expecting 2 more, I still can't answer this question. I guess my best advice for this is not to sweat the small stuff. There will be good times, bad times, hard times, and easy times. Just know that you are doing your best parenting your child and never doubt yourself. You will be o.k. I promise = )
The best advice I can give after 4 children...never compare you children to others and throw the books away.

You will drive yourself crazy comparing milestones and such.

And with books...your kids can't read in utero and don't get it. They have their own sleep/wake schedules, eat when they are hungry(because they can't tell time). Sleep when baby sleeps, feed baby before they cry(kids give great hunger signs, and crying is the last ditch effort), and do what feels right in your heart.

And, be easy on yourself...you are learning how to be a parent. You will make mistakes. We all do.
My tips is always be ther for ur child...My daughter only 7mnths so i dont have much things to go thru but as she gets older il learn my own tips...i dont listen to other pls advice unless i ask for it as shes my daughter and i want to do things my way...But mainly i would say to stay calm and be patient and just enjoy...until they can understand make the most of the young years, they grow so fast :-)
Make sure you always put in time for yourself and dont stress the small stuff make sure you make the best of everyday enjoy being able to spend time with your children because before you know it they will grow up it happens fast
being organized makes the day a lot easier!!!
    co-sleep

Given that the model in the link given was sold almost a year ago, would it be too much of a stretch to suggest that, perhaps, this isn't actually *your* work?

FWIW, I'd have rated the model a ';9'; on the CMON scale. I tend to reserve 10s for models with extensive conversion work or which are sculpted from scratch to a professional standard.

The work in the link below isn't as good as Arjay's stuff, but it is mine.

Anyone have any honeymoon advice, tips, experience in the bahamas?

I am planning on taking my wife there on our honeymoon, and was wondering if anyone on here had been before, perhaps on a honeymoon, and had any recommendations. I don't really want to get a motel 6, (as an example of going cheap) but I don't want to spend a ton of money, as we will need it getting settled and getting started in our life. Perhaps a condo or something on the beach, or something. And... is there an airport, where we could fly down there? We both would rather fly down, and fly back. But if anyone has any recommendations on a good place to stay, things to do, and how much to expect to pay, please fill me in. I don't know what to expect really as far as price wise, I don't have a clue how much a honeymoon costs. Thats why I'm planning a little early lol. Thanks! Oh, any websites would be good too.Anyone have any honeymoon advice, tips, experience in the bahamas?
I guess it depends on what exactly you'd like to do as to where you should stay. I've never been there either, but I'd start by googling it. But as for the airport, I know there's one in Nassau!Anyone have any honeymoon advice, tips, experience in the bahamas?
Jamica..they alwasys have things for cheap and it is amazing..somewhere like Nigril would be good. Just go to www.applevactions.com

Hey guys iv got my practical car test soon and would like some tips and advice for how i can (hopefully) pass please help me out, thanks againIv got my car practical test soon and would like some tips and advice from people who have passed there selfs?
Hey, taking a practical can be a scary thing, but you'll be great! Basically treat it as you would with any other driving lesson and don't be scared or nervous - i know it's really easy to say, but it was best advice i was given. Reassure yourself that you ARE in control of the car, and you drive it, the car doesn't drive you.

Examiners take it all into account that drivers are nervous - they are used to it and know what to expect :)

I am a 24 year old male and i cannot last long during sex!Any tips or advice?

It feels so unbelievably sensitive everytime.I am a 24 year old male and i cannot last long during sex!Any tips or advice?
This is completely normal, especially since you're not that old. you're only 24, and as you get older and your body adjusts to the feelings of intercourse, then you will begin to last longer. There are things you can do to enhance the amount of time you last. It's also normal for the penis to feel so sensitive at times. This is generally due to the arousal/hormone level in your body.

One of the simplest things to do is to withdraw yourself when you feel your orgasm coming on. Just contine to caress and stimulate your partner until your body has pulled away from the orgasm and then reenter. You can do this as many times as you wish until the desired time is reached, then complete the orgasm. This is something that you can do instantly and won't have to wait for results. Doing some of the things the answer above me stated like switching positions, masturbating beforehand and such will help also. There is another method that you can use that will take some time, but will keep you able to last longer for a long while.

Doing Kegel Exercises help improve the amount of time you last and actually helps strengthen the bladder muscles too. The PC muscles will tighten and strengthen as you continue do this.

If you wish to find more information, feel free to reserach online or at your local library about the PC muscels and how you can strengthen them. Below is a site that will help you better understand Kegel exercises and how to do them. Hope this helps.I am a 24 year old male and i cannot last long during sex!Any tips or advice?
Kegel exercises help, but you need to use them correctly in order not to ejaculate prematurely.

Work out the pc muscle, but during sex, leave it relaxed... if not you can actually stimulate the prostate which can LEAD to a premature ejaculation.

    Here, check this out:

    ';Using Ejaculation Control Exercises and Male Multiple Orgasms to Overcome Premature Ejaculation ';

    http://mistermanpower.net/blog/?p=260
    Wear a thicker condom?

Are you good for 2 sessions in a row? Or is it 1 quickie and you're done? If you can get the 1st one over with and then go another time you'll likely last longer the 2nd time through.

Spend more time on foreplay so that the girl gets her time in. Also, during sex if you start getting close pull out and go back to foreplay and fondling and kissing.
my boyfriend only lasts like 5 minutes unless he does this..

    - masturbate before you have sex. either before the girl comes over, or you can have her jack you off / give you a bj before you guys have sex. that way you'll last longer bc it's the second time.

    - when you feel like you are about to ***, stop. get out and don't do anything with your penis. instead eat her out, makeout with her, finger her, rub her boobs, whatever. just make sure that your penis will not be stimulated. this makes sure you're still turned on but you won't ***, and it will give you another 5-10 minutes.

    - switch positions every now %26amp; then. it will give your dick a 10 second break or so.

    - think of something disgusting, but not so disgusting that your loose your erection. think about: your girlfriend bald, or in some horrible disgusting outfit. or your girlfriend getting fat.

-oh and wear a condom. not only is it safer, you will last longer because your penis does not get direct contact, which makes it not as sensitive.

    hope this helps!
Souds like you have a problem on your hands, but its not a big problem that cant be easily fixed, i would recommend that when ever you masterbate get really close to cumming, then stop. and repeat this for as long as you can.

    Hope this helps!

    Good luck!
look up desensitizing lubes or condoms...they're out there...

Tips and advice on how to become stronger with my bench press ?

I'm 16 160 5'9 and I only max out 185 I want to be able to do 250 by the end of the summer any tips adviceTips and advice on how to become stronger with my bench press ?
    I like the tips here:

    http://www.criticalbench.com/bench-press鈥?/a>

Another one they didn't mention is to try to pull the bar apart before you lift off (it won't really break so go crazy). It gets your stabilizer muscles more involved.

Lift with good form. Cheating a little here and there will get you some gains, but once that runs its course you will have cheated the biggest muscles out of their full workouts and you won't get maximum results. Once you get good form you can build quickly by varying your reps and weights and work on building your triceps and delts to keep your max climbing. Exercises like weighted dips and shoulder press really help boost your numbers.

It shouldn't be too hard to reach your goal, just concentrate on getting a few more reps each week and moving up slowly. Good luck!

things like this take time. remember your hair grows less than an inch every month.

    try changing your diet.

    drink lots of water

eat healthy foods, not too much junk

eat tons of proteins(it doesn't have to be meat you can eat peanut butter, nuts and beans and some rice they are proteins) because hair IS protein.

massage your scalp to stimulate growth.

also use olive oil on your hair.

i hear that it makes your hair oily but i think that depends on the person.if it does use some products that have olive oil(i have olive oil mousse and it is fine)

    cut your split ends regularly.

also make sure that your tips of your hair are conditioned well when you wash etc. so they don't become split to begin with.

don't apply too much heat to your hair (this includes straightening, curling crimping and blow drying your hair, let your hair dry naturally)

    also try hot oil treatments

deep conditioning your hair should do the trick, get a shampoo and conditioner made for damaged hair.Tips and advice to grow my hair out?
I've got hair almost to my elbows, and I've been growing it for a few years. I totally owe its health and strength to leave-in-conditioners.

Yes, deep conditioning is okay but it's not for everyday use. Leave-in conditioner can be used every day, because it does not usually make hair greasy. My favorites are spray-in, but there are also gels, mousse, and cremes. And you really don't have to buy an expensive one. Aussie's Hair Insurance is great, Dove used to have a good one (I don't know if it's still around), Sunsilk has one, and Infusium 23's ROCKS.

When you use leave-in conditioner, pay special attention to the tips of your strands.

Good luck with your hair journey! I love long, strong hair.
you should get your hair cut, but then while its growing back dont use that much heat such as straighteners, curling irons, blow dryers.etc.... that will keep it from getting dry and damaged. u should also use conditioner, but not too much, because that can cause dandruff. i also recomend some type of strength serum such as the suave extreme strength daily leave in treatment and frizz-ease overnight repair formula from the john frieda collection. you can find these at tons of stores like target, kroger, etc.

protein and vitamins are also very good for your hair (and teeth) wich can be found in milk, meat and other foods. hope i helped!
massaging it about 2-3 times a day for about 5 minutes will promote hair growth ;). dont use oils, just please dont, trust me.

    go0d luck!

Can someone help me provide my parents tips and advice on how to handle a college bound high school senior?!?

I am currently a senior in high school and next year I plan on attending a 4-year University. I have been extremely irritated lately because my parents keep nagging me about why I'm staying up late studying and doing all these extra curricular activities. They do not understand what it takes to become accepted into a University. They are just completely blind about this whole process. They refuse to be active in my school life and to talk to someone who could explain why i'm doing what I'm doing. It is just so frustrating when my parents aren't giving me encouragement when I need it the most. Someone please help! Can someone help me provide my parents tips and advice on how to handle a college bound high school senior?!?
How wonderful! I just LOVE your self motivation!

Some kids are pushed and rebel, others like you have ambition and drive and it is so admirable. Just do what you are doing. Some of the most admired people in History have succeeded in spite of their families not because of them.

Your parents lose by not being involve in your activities. I wish you the best. Can someone help me provide my parents tips and advice on how to handle a college bound high school senior?!?
ask your school counselor, they can list the pro's and con's of all that you do, being familiar with what you're doing.

this will give you almost sufficient ammo when you want to explain. just keep in mind, they may still stay uninterested.

good luck %26amp; keep up the hard work

im the mom of a junior and i understand!
I'm delighted to see that you are a self-starter. In addition to the factual statements about your parents, its not hard to see your disgust for their lack of interest.

Have you talked to the guidance counselors at school? Also try to speak to college counselors. Of course, other students and graduates could help give you valuable tips.

This is a great place to start here at yahoo answers! I would ask this question several times over the next few months and revise your questions as your information needs evolve.

Don't be afraid to ask around at youth group activities and church events.

    Best wishes to you!
Been there. Actually, my mom was at least a little bit supportive, but didn't really get it either.

Anyway, I know it's tough, but you're not really going to convince them. They did things one way, and they can't understand that life is different today.

Here's the thing. You'll probably still be able to get in even if it's not the top school, and it won't destroy your chances for getting a job later. Don't panic. But do what you can, and try to stay focused. I know it's tough, but I survived, and eventually even went on and got a Ph.D. You'll survive. In fact, it will build character. Once you get to college, you'll find lots of your friends are just as bad an influence then as your parents are now. Instead, they'll be trying to get you to go out and party, but it has the same effect. So, you're now building up willpower that will help you later.

Character-building is never fun, but it will pay off.

Tips or advice for growing nails for finger picking?

I want to try and grow my right hand nails for cleaner sounding finger picking. but every time I've tried they keep breaking or splitting. Any ideas??

I know it sounds kind of gay, but whatever!Tips or advice for growing nails for finger picking?
Okay - nails are one thing that classical guitar players obsess over.

If you are fingerpicking steel-string, don't bother with nails. The strings will only shred them anyway. Best to get yourself finger picks and learn to use those, they will give you more sound anyway.

For nylon strong guitars, the nails ned to be a certain length so tat you can play with the nails, the fleshy part of your fingertips, or a combination of both and they require constant maintenance.

The best way to make your nails stronger is to add gelatin to your diet, but not jell-o type products, straight gelatin. Eventually they will grow stronger and thicker.

If you break a nail days before a gig and can not grow a new one in time, the best temporary solution is to use a piece cut from a ping-pong ball glues to your nail. Fake nails are plastic and never sound right - the one finger with the fake nail will stick out and give you an inconsistent sound. The cellulose material of a ping pong ball will best match the feel and sound of a real nail (though it will look a little funny) - after the gig, take off the fake nail immediately, as having it glues to your finger may weaken the nail underneath and inhibit growth.

As a result of all of that, I don't bother playing with nails. Too much of a pain in the ***!Tips or advice for growing nails for finger picking?
Finger picks are usually worn in the opposite direction from the way your fingernails grow. If you are plucking upwards with your fingers, they will snag rather than pluck the strings and this is probably how you break them. I guess if you want to keep trying, why don't you use artificial nails? They glue on with crazy glue and might be stronger or at least reinforce your real nails.
A plastic thumbpick and two National steel finger picks will do it but strive to play with your finger tips only - not nails or picks and you will learn to develop your technique much better. That is because you can feel the strings...
Just wait patiently and it will come but to protect them don't try any risky things. And another thing, You are a ROCKING person! I think you are awesome. Keep playin' Peace to you!
take a biotin supplement to strengthen your nails. thats all i got.

Be big and muscular and strong; practice your down stance; learn how to hit effectively; work on quickness drilles (speed drilles is an option); work on alertness drills as well; have a keen sense of awareness for not making defensive mistakes.

Gardening Tips, Advice, anything helpfull for a BEGINNER starting a new garden?

Need advice from you at YAhoo Answers.Gardening Tips, Advice, anything helpfull for a BEGINNER starting a new garden?
Water early in the morning. Avoid strong fertilizers until your plants are mature. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I've personally murdered many a good plant through neglect, ignorance, and stupidity.

Read the little cards that come with the plants, there is a lot of use-full information there.Gardening Tips, Advice, anything helpfull for a BEGINNER starting a new garden?
    water + plants = good
check out http://houseofwesley.com. You can find some really good deals. Buy some bulbs and stick them in the dirt. Water them every day and you will have a good start.
this time of year i would buy starter plants, note annual plants come up every year and generally spread, note how tall they grow, put tall in back, smaller ones in the front ,if you put mulch around the plants it keeps them moist til the the plants take hold make sure you put a little water in the hole when planted water good, plant in the evening while it is cool then they have all night to take hold water plants late after noon so the plant wont burn up or early morning.now if you like wild flowers, read back of direction, there is an old wife's tale never say THANK YOU after you buy them or if someone gives them to you ,i don't really know this as a fact some were along the line some one will tell you this.
when You plant seeds for flowers make sure you water the area. And pulls any weeds. make sure you know what type of bugs eat plants cuz they will eat them. any ways thats all I can think of

What are some tips and advice to get help paying for college(besides loans)such as work study?

Be exhaustive in your search. The FAFSA will let you know for sure if you qualify for work study or loans, and the rest you'll have to find for yourself. Check to see if your school or local businesses have grants and scholarships that you can apply for.

FastWeb.com is another place that has a great listing of scholarships that you can apply for. Many require an essay, some transcripts, recommendation letters, or the like.

Can someone give me the best tips and advice for long lasting eye life? Also is pinching technique safe to do to take off the contacts off your eyes?

Thank you :)Can someone give me the best tips and advice in contact wearing for long healthy eye life? Also Pinching Techni?
The most important thing to do is to follow the directions of your optometrist or ophthalmologist. When I got contacts, they stressed how important it was that I keep them clean - wash your hands before putting in your contacts. You can develop eye infections if you do not practice sanitary precautions when handling your contacts. It is also best not to sleep in your contacts, even if they are designed for extended wear. Your eyes need oxygen, and having contacts in all the time can harm them in the long run.

As far as the pinching technique, it's probably fine. I tend to use my finger to drag the lens off of my eye slowly, which doesn't hurt and doesn't tear the contact.

I want to try my hand at freecycling. Do you guys have any tips and advice?

I recently moved into a new apartment and we are lacking wall decor and accessories. After watching the show Junk Raiders (about a bunch of people trying to build a loft out of junk) I thought about freecycling.

    So any advice?

I've been using freecycle for about a month now in southern california and I really enjoy getting rid of my stuff. I have yet to respond to an offer to pick stuff up though. Like the other person said you have to offer things on freecycle before you can ask for items. But you'd be surprised the things that people are willing to come pick up from you. I have given away many things from UNused tampons and nair to a halloween costume. Try it out, you have nothing to lose only to gain and to keep things out of landfills :D
Most freecycle communities require that you offer things before you are able to accept or post wanted items. The best advice is sign up and see what is offered. I personally don't like having emails pile up in my mailbox, so I subscribe to a single daily email, but that means many items are taken before I see it. I also signed up in my city and a couple surrounding cities.
Be specific in what you are giving away or want. Delete your post when you have what you want. Don't ramble on about what you want the object for or where it's going or that you just arrived in town or whatever- no one really cares. If they have it and want to get rid of it they will contact you.
It's a great idea. I use craig's list and I get tons of great things off of there. You should definitelygive free cyclinga shot.
S'a good idea. I need to check it out again. THanks!

I need tips or advice for swimming the 500 in the upcoming swim season.?

I swim the 500 Freestyle in High School Swim Meets. The season just ended and I closed it out with a 6:16 with my best time. I would like to know what type of work outs I need to do, and some good strategies to try on swimming the 500. Please if anyone could help me out I would gladly appreciate it. You can email me at mitchell_borchert@yahoo.com for tips. Thanks!I need tips or advice for swimming the 500 in the upcoming swim season.?
I have been swimming for over 10 years and my best events are the 500, 1000, 1650 Fr so I know a little bit about the 500. To prepare the the 500 fr you need to practice hard and you need to do a endurance set (8-200's, 3-400's, and 3-500's) do all this without taking a long break into between each set (about 15-30sec) do it on a diffcult interval because that is the only way to get better. Also Work on your flipturns.

Now while you are swimming the 500 at meets you need to have a upbeat song to play in your head while swimming it. You also need fast flipturns. Take it out fast. At lap 10 start building up to lap 20. You need to push yourself even if you are tired you need to put that pain out of your mind. Just keep going and remember to have fun!!!!!!!!I need tips or advice for swimming the 500 in the upcoming swim season.?
Distance swimming is really tough to train for. What my coach does, is once a week he offers a sprint option, and a distance option and lets the swimmers choose. Sometimes he requires that a certain swimmer chooses a certain option. Talk to your coach about having an option for you, if he doesn't go for it, I have a really good set that you can do on your own time. Here it is:

4 x 475's freeestyle descend on an interval of 8 minutes

Tips? Secrets? You probably know them already. It's about practicing and practicing right in terms of length, commitment, diet, sleep, flexibility, etc. I would recommend looking at Ian Thorpe on Youtube or his 'Beneath the Suit' DVD. He is the greatest middle-distant freestyler ever to exist. Also, check out www.goswim.tv for drills. They have a lot of cool stuff.

Replacing a Toyota V6 with a 4 cylinder in a 4Runner any tips or advice?

I have a 4Runner and want to replace the V6 with a 22R 4 cylinder engine to save gas. The V6 is tired anyway. Has anyone reading this ever done it? Will it cost a ridiculous amount and make me crazy? I will have the pick-up that the 4 cyl. comes from, will the motor mounts transfer? Will the accelerator linkage alone be a full on project?Replacing a Toyota V6 with a 4 cylinder in a 4Runner any tips or advice?
    Why?

The 4 cylinder has to work harder to get that brick on wheels moving.

MPG gains = minimal at best.

Good idea in theory, bad in reality. Check MPG figures for a 4Runner at fueleconomy.gov and see the minimal difference in MPGs.Replacing a Toyota V6 with a 4 cylinder in a 4Runner any tips or advice?
You will probably need to fab up your own mounts, good luck.
The whole thing is a project. And no the motor mounts won't work.

Any tips and advice on being a vegetarian?

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian, but am a bit concerned about getting the protein that I need. Any major health related differences between vegetarians and non-vegetarians?Any tips and advice on being a vegetarian?
Don't eat meat.Any tips and advice on being a vegetarian?
    1. Don't eat meat

    2. Consider going vegan (For the environment, health, and animals)

    3. Find a local animal rights group or start one

    4. good luck!
Eat loads and loads of black pudding!!
Don't eat anything with a face.
    Meat dont eat
You might want to consider the kind of vegetarian you want to be. Google ';Flexitarian Diets'; or simply ';flexitarian';. This is especially important if you are concerned (and you ought to be) about getting the nutrients you need.

If you have any kind of life, you probably would find ';strict'; vegetarianism a real cramp in your lifestyle . .. both socially and with regard to diet. If you have the time to forage for food and restrict yourself socially ... then strict vegetarianism is the way to go ... not to mention the scrupulous watch you have to keep on your nutrient intake. It simply isnt' worth the bother.

Most of the world's vegetarian cultures . .. cultures that have been vegetarian for centuries also eat small amounts of fish, poultry, seafood or combination of all three.

Excess meat can be problematical and the source of physical problems. So the issue is moderation and balance.
Just Look Into What You're Eating.

Know EXACTLY what is going into your food.

I didn't know all about E numbers and Gellitine until I looked some stuff up on websites.

Like Coca Cola and most fizzy drinks have animal parts in.

As do chewy sweets, chewing gum.... ect.

    the list goes on...

just google it and see if you're gonna be able to cope with missing out on some foods.

if not then just eat orgainic meat.

    :)
I've been veggie for around 6 years and I must say that any healthy balanced diet whether you choose to eat meat or not requires sufficient knowledge in nutrition.

Some of the benefits of living on a well balanced vegetarian diet are that you are at less risk in developing heart disease, colon cancer etc and it's cheaper!

You can get protein from eggs, tofu (soy beancurd), dairy products, beans and pulses etc. However eggs and soybeans are the only non animal foods that are classed as complete proteins. With regards to getting protein from beans and pulses etc you need to combine them with complex carbs (wholewheat pasta, brown rice, wholewheat breads, sweet potatoes etc) to allow the body to absorb the protein. You need to also consider how you are going to get a sufficient intake of EFA's (Essential Fatty Acids) which are normally found in oily fish. Your alternatives are flaxseed which you can sprinkle on your cereal and other nuts and seeds like walnuts etc contain EFA's.

Iron deficiency is often a problem with people who are on poor vegetarian diets but if you consume a healthy level of green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, chickpeas, dried apricots your iron levels should be fine.

Another thing to consider is your intake of B vitamins particularly B12. Nowadays many things like breakfast cereals etc are fortified with these vitamins but it's always good to know additional sources. For example Marmite, veggie burgers, dairy produce and free range eggs.

It frustrates me when meat eaters assume that just because we don't have a slab of meat on our plates we live on an unhealthy diet. So don't assume that just because you may have a lump of chicken on your plate that you're getting all the nutrients the body needs. There are plenty of meat eaters on terrible diets and likewise there are some veggies living on poor diets too. The key to healthy eating as a vegetarian is to eat a balanced and varied diet. The foods you eat will need to be considered more and sometimes more effort is required in preparing meals otherwise your dishes can become quite dull. Vegetarian food is exciting and tasty, it just requires knowledge and experience on what to cook and how to cook it.

Since becoming veggie, I've noticed my energy levels have increased, my constitution is regular and healthy and I generally feel very well. I'm also quite an active person training in judo, aikido and going to the gym between 1-3 times a week and my diet has had no negative impact whatsoever.

If you want to become veggie for the right reasons go for it but if you do don't give us a bad name and become preachy. I hate that just as much as being asked why I'm vegetarian by a meat-eater as though I have to explain my actions. If I asked them why they choose to eat meat, I'd be labelled a preachy vegetarian!

I hope this has been useful for you!
Its a great shame that so many people are unable to give a helpful answer.

As long as you watch your diet- there are no health risks in being Vegetarian, you can get everything you need easily. Vegan, is still doable, but ts abit harder.

Protein--- Nuts , lentils, chickpeas, tofu, bread , pasta, cheese, soya... and many more, no problem there :)

    Iron--- Chickpeas, lentils, spinach, Molasses...

Calcium---broccoli, milk, cheese - easy to get on a vegetarian diet

Vitamins ( in general)- Eat lots of fruit , maybe look into it more to know exactly whats in what

Heatlh- some people say being vegetarian is healthier, I do not know enough about that to comment other than to say : I feel healthier, I do alot of sport and have not seen any negative effects , only positive ( so far) .

And as a side note, going Veg*n is very good for the environment ( if you are in to that type of thing, some are in it for the anti-cruelty factor)

Go for it! its easier than you think!
take B-12, eat lots of broccoli, and take a good multi vitamin...that should do it. And you might try a recording by independent achievement productions, they make one for people wanting the continued desire to eat vegetarian, it's really good .
Hi I've been a veggie since I was 13 (7 years) and have noticed no negative effects and it has not stopped me being a healthy active person at all. As long as you look into alternative sources of minerals:-)
Heres a good tip.....Dont eat meat!
avoid to much starch as a filler- bread cakes crisps etc

make sure you eat protein- nuts cheese milk lentil and seeds

eggs and Chick peas- soya and tofu are good substitutes for meat

avoid too many processed ready veggie meals

check out a good cook book

veggie diets are very good for you so long as they are well balanced.

    bon appetite
    Hi, Dan,

I've been veggie for 40 years, feel fine so far - I was vegan for the middle 20 years, and still only use the occasional dairy products.

Protein reqirements depend on your age %26amp; lifestyle, an active teenager needs lots more than a middle-aged office worker.

Try the Vegetarian Society website for more detailed advice, I could go on all night about it.

And - yes, please go for free-range and organic whenever you possibly can.

    All the very best!
If you are going to be a vegetarian don't make out that us meat eaters are bad people like veggies that I know do.

My auntie is a veggie and so automatically is my cousin too, she is constantly pale and always tired.

I think if you are going to be a vegetarian properly you need to investigate the vitamins and minerals you will be missing out on and where to get them in other foods you can eat.
If God did not intend for us to eat animals, then why did he make them out of meat?

Tips or advice on giving oral testimony in court?

I'm having to give an oral testimony tomorrow in court for the sake and protection of two young children. Does anyone have any tips or advice that would make this process a little easier or smoother? Personal experiences would be nice to hear as well. Thanks all.Tips or advice on giving oral testimony in court?
Answer the questions as honestly as you can. Answer ONLY the question and do NOT volunteer anything else. Keep you answer to JUST the facts and avoid giving your ';Opinion'; unless asked to do so. In other words, just give testimony that is asked for and keep quiet about anything else, regardless of HOW you feel, either for or against the people involved. Oh, and try to be as respectful as possible to everyone in the courtroom. And shut up after you are done and do not whisper or talk to anyone else while you are in the courtroom.

    Brightest Blessings,

I need some advice, tips about a presentation and defent my thesis to get a degree pls!!!?

I will defent and present my thesis about smuggling of sintetic textils, my thesis is a description about this ilegal trade in my city, I chose a description cuz theres isn't enough stadistical information. I have to present my thesis to three teacher of my university , they are my jury, and I need some advices, tips to present it, I'm a little nervious..... Thanks!!!I need some advice, tips about a presentation and defent my thesis to get a degree pls!!!?
Do you mean ';Defend'; your thesis? You have to be prepared with the ';statistical data';. You cannot just present a topic with no data.

Try looking up old news reports on Google. Track down leads and get that statistical data you are missing. It is imperative that you state your resources and don't plagerize. I'm sure you know all this, but these are minor things that can be disaterous.

Make sure you pratice defending your thesis with some friends so that you are prepared to answer a broader range of questions that those which only you might think they might ask.

First tip to a successful presentation is preperation.Practice, practice, pratice!! Outline your thesis in a speech format for you to practice with. Stumbling on key words or phrases shows a lack of prep and is distracting.

I want to start writing any tips or advice?

Ya I want to start writing. I've been writing since I was 7 I wrote a journal of short stories mainly of kid stuff like space and stuff, but my dad found the book and threw it away saying I can't write. I later when I was 9 started writing songs about ambition and stuff and hid them all around my room so he couldn't find them. He abandoned me when I was 13 so it was safer to write I wrote a chapter book, and a bunch of poems. 5 which have been published, and a bunch that are in a book around 20 but I probably won't publish them because I was in a depression at the time I wrote them. Any tips though? If i do finally write another novel or chapter book and it gets published about how much will it cost to send in to publish? I have about 3 different novels in my head right now that I want to start, but I'm just to busy to start writing again, it's my senior year in high school. If I want to be an author what kind of education should I move onto for college?I want to start writing any tips or advice?
Frankly, the career most conducive to writing is Education since you can have that three months off per year to write. Do not plan on writing as your primary career. Less than 1% of all writers actually manage to make a living at it and that includes reporters, technical writers, and bestselling authors like J. K. Rowling.

That doesn't mean give up writing. Just plan wisely. Having said that, here's a few books that will help:

The Elements of Style by Strunk %26amp; White. Best grammar book ever written. Short and easy to use.

Characters %26amp; Viewpoint by Orson Scott Card. He teaches you how to make better characters and manage point of view in your stories.

    PLOT

    ACTION, CONFLICT %26amp; SUSPENSE

    DIALOGUE

(all from the Fiction Writers' series from Writers Digest).

Oh, and write a little bit every day. Practice makes perfect.I want to start writing any tips or advice?
I've been a writer, not as a profession nor have I ever had any of my work published.

    Have a look at lulu.com

it's a self publishing site and some people through that site sell their books and other things on there.

However you need to do your own marketing, promotion of your work. Particulary if you do publish through lulu.com so people know where to go to to buy your material.

Other than that, see if there are any writing/writers centres, groups in your local area. It is very hard to get any work published though. Even for J.K. Rowling.

She had heaps of knock backs, back in the 1990s.
If you're serious about writing, you need to write write write. You also need to study. Go to college. Not only will it give you the skills you need, it will also give you the life experiences that are important for a writer. You'll probably want to major in English with a writing focus.

If you want to self publish, there are a number of venues available. The least expensive one is Lulu.com. I have not personally used them, but I've used services like them (CafePress.com has the same basic publishing service). You won't make a lot of money off of a book when you self publish, but you will have you book in print. Getting it out for people to know about is another thing all together.

I published my book ';Cemetery Walk'; with AuthorHouse.com. They are pricey (starting at around $800, unless you happen upon a deep discount like I got, just to get your book ready and published), but they do also get your book out there on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and many other booksellers. They also assign your book an ISBN, which is a must to get your book in bookstores.

With the Internet, you have options as to getting yourself published by yourself. You can create a website and publish your work there in order to create a following. Start a Yahoo Group. You definitely have to network, and the web makes it much easier than even a few years ago.

My advice is to learn everything you can about the craft of writing. Write as much as possible to hone your skills, and (this is almost more important) READ READ READ. You can't be a good writer unless you read a lot. It gives you an idea of how the pros shape their work, which can teach you a lot about your own work.

As a side note, any time you write, treat it as something very important. When you are a writer, it's your best way of communicating. Take it seriously. In your question, you took a number of short cuts (lack of proper punctuation, etc.), which made it difficult to read.

    Good luck!
No offense, but if you really are a senior in high school, take a few basic grammar classes. You have a good couple of run on sentences, a number of misspelled words, etc. If you send something in to a publisher, they won't spell check it for you, they'll simply send it back to you.

This is the start of my third week and i've lost 10 pounds so far. I started at one day exercis the first week, 2 days the 2nd, and now im going to do 3 days this week until i get to 5. I dont eat the healthiest foods all the time but i keep in moderation and stay away from unessesary junk foods and i keep my calories between 1200-1800.

im 19 male 6 ft and 238 pounds now from 248.How am i doing on my diet so far and any extra tips or advice?
Sounds really good, Gabe. Gradual is the key to success. What kind of exercise? Start with 30-45 minutes of brisk walking if you can, going up to a full hour. You can start building muscle right away, actually. Just do some exercise you can only do about 5 of, and work up to ten, every other day. A pair of 10 k dumbells would be good for curls. Also 5-10 pushups, and see if you can do a few pullups, and one-legged squats (half-knee bends, actually) At your age, you need one day of rest to rebuild tissue. Over 45, you need 3.

At first, you might not lose much total weight, because you are adding muscle as well as burning fat. But you will slim down. Look at the mirror rather than the bathroom scale.

After you can walk easily about 3 or 4 miles in an hour, get something more strenuous like stair climbing. How am i doing on my diet so far and any extra tips or advice?
Intense cardio 2-3 times a week. If you are trying to build lean muscle, the best approach is to do it while you burn off your fat. While working out try a 2-3 sets, but a higher # of reps. As your strength increases, continue the #of reps, but increase the sets. This will emphasize more muscle cuts

I've read a few articles here and there. Looking to read personal experiences, such as how did you introduce your newborn to your pets? Thanks for sharing :)Any tips or advice on how to introduce our dogs to our newborn?
I did several things. The first was I stopped doing most of the dog chores about three months before the baby came...so they were used to dad doing the feeding and letting them out in the morning. Then, we set up all the furniture and baby stuff about six weeks before I was due. That way, they could smell them, sit in the carseat, get used to the crib and humidifier making noise. When I delivered, I had my hubby take home a blanket the baby had been wrapped in for the dogs to smell. Then, when I came home, I made sure to go in and say hi to the dogs before the baby came in. My hubby brought her/him (I have two older children and one on the way) and let the dogs sniff the seat, the baby, and whatever else, as long as they did not lick the face or seem threatened by them. When the baby cried, I would go and get the baby and let them sniff her/him to show them he/she was fine. They got freaked out by the crying sound. Soon enough, my one dog didn't care much about the baby at all and the other one was pretty protective. In a good way. Just kinda judge how your dogs react and try not to freak out if they lick her head or sniff her feet. Dogs just want to know they are not being replaced and that the baby is part theirs too. It helped mine were small and not terribly posessive of me. But we had no issues, thankfully. We will do it the same with this child.Any tips or advice on how to introduce our dogs to our newborn?
Start with letting your dog smell a blanket that the baby used before you bring them home from the hospital.
Your suppose to keep the hat they first put on your newborn at birth, and leave it for the dogs to smell. That scent will help them adjust.
    ';puppy this is baby, baby this is puppy.';

No i am joking. Really just have someone else on hand when you bring baby home. Let the dog be curious and sniff around the baby, and if the dog reacts badly someone will be there to grab his/her collar.

We did this with out dog and he had no problem. Generally if you have a nonaggression or a calm dog their is not worry.

Younger hyper dogs are the big worry and need to be watched closely for the first few weeks.
Before you bring your baby home have someone take a dirty diaper or two home. Sounds gross I know, but the smell is very strong and the diaper sound is new to the dog also.

This way your dog will know the baby's smell before the baby comes home and it won't be such a shock.

Try to keep up the same routine you had with your dog.

Get your dog a nice bone from the grocery store or a butcher to keep the

dog occupied while your attention is on you baby.

Lots of praise for your dog, dogs do get jealous.

What tips of advice do you have on trying to conceive for a woman who's been told she can never produce kids?

Did any doctors or experts help you out? Was it successful? What advice did they give you? What did they tell you? Do you know what? I did NOT know that there was such an AMAZING amount of women in this world who have trouble conceiving a baby. I feel alone here. What tips of advice do you have on trying to conceive for a woman who's been told she can never produce kids?
Do not give up. There is a really large number of people who have difficulty conceiving. I am learning this now that I am having difficulty myself. I actually have 3 aquaintences who are in the same situation as myself. And we are all healthy young women, who just can't seem to conceive. Anyway, don't feel alone. Don't ever give up. Doctors are just people, and they don't know everything. In the end, The Good Lord is the one who makes these choices, and have faith He will come through for you (and me) I work with a woman who had in vitro 7 years ago and had twins. The doctors told her it would never happen naturally for her. This year she had a beautiful healthy baby girl- the natural way, without even ';trying';. It's people like that who give me hope that it will happen for me. Keep your chin up!What tips of advice do you have on trying to conceive for a woman who's been told she can never produce kids?
It depends on WHY she can't have kids. If she's missing a uterus, then yeah, it's probably not possible. But if it's unexplained infertility I would tell her not to give up and see a fertility specialist.

    Good luck.
i say don't give up because i was told too that i would never be able to get pregnant. which i have had 2 miscarraiges and i was very sad but at the same time it gave me hope. i can concieve. don't worry God knows your heart and if you want a baby you will get your baby. just don't give up that faith that you will concieve. my aunt was told she would never be able to have any children ever in her life. she was very sad and depressed. but 3 children later she realized that if you want it God will give it to you. don't give up!lots of baby dust your way and mine!
You are going to have your own baby soon, have faith in the Lord in respective of whatever they have diagnonised about you, just be positive and put your trust in God, it is going to happen when you least expected but on one condition, DON'T BE STRESS OUT. We will definitely rejoice with you.

    Good luck.
like wat many ppl say.. when you stop trying too hard.. it will come.. Have Faith!
