Does ne one have tips/advice to HS graduates who wants to major in advert/pr as a major in college?

What do you think is important for a HS graduate to know about the advertising/pr field before they get into it besides the fact that its a tough area to break into. What more than passion/the ability to face challenges/work hard do they need to be successful in a feild like this? Where can one get the right kind of guidance? Will college be helpful as it makes it out to be? How far can that college knowledge take them? If you are in this feild, what is somethign you wish someone had told u?Does ne one have tips/advice to HS graduates who wants to major in advert/pr as a major in college?
You definitely need to try college out. For starters it may be to your benefit to take some courses at a junior college/community college. Talk with the instructors and marketing majors. The Business department at the college should have a mentor/understudy program. If not then seek the counsel and advice of an advisor representing the Business program. College is important...but not that important as it applies to your ability to be creative. A degree is helpful in getting a job, but not as helpful in being GOOD at your job if you know what I mean. You don't get handed a diploma and are all of a sudden creative.





That being said, if you want to really be able to write good ad copy, I suggest you study the art of poetry......no, I'm not kidding...poetry.





The key to adverting is being able to say or describe something in a way that would not normally be used....I.E. - like poets do.
