How can I write successfully in third person point of view(advice/tips)?

I will have to write in both limited and omniscient(at different times of course). Any tips on how to write, and not sound like a five year old telling a story?How can I write successfully in third person point of view(advice/tips)?
Try reading some third person point of view, to get a feel for how professional authors do it.

Check out http://www.amazon.com and go to books that say ';look inside'; until you find a book where you can read the first page. See how the author talks about the characters, describes things through their thoughts and actions.

Here's the beginning of John Grisham's novel ';The Client'; which is on his website here http://www.jgrisham.com/the-client-excer鈥?/a>

';MARK WAS ELEVEN and had been smoking off and on for two years, never trying to quit but being careful not to get hooked. He preferred Kools, his ex-father鈥檚 brand, but his mother smoked Virginia Slims at the rate of two packs a day, and he could in an average week pilfer ten or twelve from her. She was a busy woman with many problems, perhaps a little naive when it came to her boys, and she never dreamed her eldest would be smoking at the age of eleven.

Occasionally Kevin, the delinquent two streets over, would sell Mark a pack of stolen Marlboros for a dollar. But for the most part he had to rely on his mother鈥檚 skinny cigarettes.';

Hope that helps!How can I write successfully in third person point of view(advice/tips)?
Take a look at Harry Potter series for limited and A Tale of Two Cities and The Wizard Heir for omniscient. For omniscient its helpful to switch characters only in different chapters and have the other characters be oblivious to others thoughts and conflicts
