What are some of your best tips and advice for writing poems?

All answers are apperciated. Thank you.

Peace and Love,

NatalieWhat are some of your best tips and advice for writing poems?
Poetry is like Making love. It is intimate, beautiful and should only be done in public by people who are very good at it.

That is my first piece of advice. The problem with most poetry is that it is bad. There are only two kinds of people who write poetry, people who can't write a laundry list and people who are so amazing at the task, that they can write poetry. Most poeple use poetry as journaling, to regurgitate all the depressing, vile, maudlin stuff in their lives, but there are a lot of other things to write poetry about. About that perfect feeling you get when you are one with Nature, about the challenges of life, about love and erotisism, about politics, freedom, war, death. It must speak from the heart without being too effete. It can be playful and joyful or deep and moving. For such a restrictive form, it is incredibly flexible. Before you write freeform, you must learn to use meter. This will give you an ear. The best Rockstars had some musical training - many of then went to Julliard. The best poets also study their craft and get good at several forms. There is a cadence that all good poetry has, it all sounjds musical. Allen Ginsberg had a wonderful sence of pacing in his poetry. You should READ poetry, all kinds from Shakespeare to Sylvia Plath, Byron, Keat, Yates, Longfellow, Shelley - all of those people and more. You should find what you want to say, who touches you. I suggest you might like the Rossettis. They are romantic. Also, Browning.

All the while, continue to write and really critique your work, find a good critic- someone who will be honest but not hurtful. The most important part, though is that you must LIVE. You must take risks and get your heart broken and be absolutley in love. You must know hardship and abundance and every other thing life has to offer and youmust love every moment of your life and live in that moment so you can tell other people around you.

Had Sandberg not been in the world that Snowy night, in that single, perfect moment, there would have been no ';For I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep';. You must be this, too, conscious of the world around you, feeling and being in your own life.

I hope this helps. What are some of your best tips and advice for writing poems?
just write what is in your hart find your own still and do i write a lot of poetry
you have to write what is within your soul....................................鈥?that's kinda hogwash. i mean, it does work...sometimes but as an artist i just write what feels good.

writing can be therapy. when you are going through a hard life situation, write about it. when your energies aline everything will flow. it has nothing to do with the soul and everything with are and emotion. the soul is way back in your brain cavity sleeping. the emotions are what's active in your head. use them. listen to them. but also constrain them so they're not random and they render what you need.
Check out a book from the library about writing poetry. Invest in a Rhyming Dictionary, a Thesaurus and study the different forms of poetry. Get a book of poems by

the American poet Robert Frost. His imagery is wonderful. He was awarded the Pulitzer four times and read a poem at President Kennedy's inauguration in 1961. You could learn so much just reading his poetry.
What I do is I write when I have somethings on my mind. i write abut my friends, family, and ME! ive won 1st place in my state on one of my poems. It was about my best friend. luv her. I also won 1st in my city because of my other poem. It was about my grandma. She died the week before. hope I helped!
Well when I try to write a poem I always try to rhyme!
Learn enough about meter to write lines that scan. Use true rhymes, not just words that are close. Practice using alliteration. Practice using assonances (similar vowel sounds for mood.

Once you know the rules, you will know when you should break them, but never do it for convenience, only becaue it is the right thing to do.

Put your heart in it.

You will write a great deal of very bad verse before you begin to write poetry, but it is worth the effort.

Peace and Love to you, too!
