I was just wondering, what are employers looking for when hiring a store clerk, what should you know before hand, what are some tips during interview? What are some tips and advice for working at the cash register of a store?
Be yourself, let them know your strengths but don't sound too arrogant about it. Let them know you are willing to work hard and learn new things (fast learner = a good thing to say). A little background about the company is excellent - it lets them know that you're really interested in working there. Smile, be confident and friendly. Just don't get nervous or anything, you'll be fine. What are some tips and advice for working at the cash register of a store?
just be polite and professional.
If I were hiring a person to work a register, I would look for these characteristics:
Honesty: I can't afford to have a thief working the cash register.
Good work ethic: I don't want someone who contributes to long lines because he/she takes five minutes on one customer.
Personableness: I would rather hire someone that creates a pleasant experience for customers than someone who doesn't seem to like the customers.
Competent in the area of arithmetic: He/she should know how to calculate change in his/her head.
Capable of being assertive: If the setting is fast food, he she at times must communicate with cooks and not be afraid to tell them what is needed.
