Higher OCTANE does NOT increase gas mileage. Please dont take that advice. These are the top 5 things to get the most miles per gallon.
5.Make sure you tires are aligned, Balanced, and Rotated
4.Make sure the correct air pressure is in your tires
3.When on a road with little stopping and going use your cruise control
2.Make sure you use the RIGHT octane gasoline in your car(Regular/Plus/Super (In your Manual)
1.Have you vehicle serviced regularly
A K@N air filter Always works and gives you 1-2 more MPG
Check out the Turbonator at That is suppose to work alsoHi, what is the best way to save gas (so indirectly money) tips? advice?
just go and race some old cars out in the streets and there you will win money and you will have money for gas if your smart but if not just don't use it sell it, or walk watever dude
I just went to the website to see the suggestions. I feel all of them were accurate and good advice. Except one misconception i found in the 'Filling up' section:
';Also, better octane gas will give you slightly better mileage indirectly, because of the smoothness of the engine and simply the quality of the gas.';
This is untrue and a waste of money. If the car requires premium then use it, if not then stick to the 87. You can try it yourself. The only difference between 87 and premium grades are the resistance to detonation. If you car is doing that the fuel mileage will be the last of your concern.
Maybe other ideas would be to remove your radio antenna and add an internal one that sticks to the windshield or rear glass. They cost $20 from Frye's electronics or radio shack.
Enjoy,

Combine your errands - don't make multiple trips out. Don't use the drive through. Sit still at lights. Accelerate and decelerate slowly and smoothly. Fill up when its cool out. Run your tires at 35 lbs and suffer a little firmer ride. Keep your air filter clean. Don't carry around a lot of junk (weight) you don't need in the trunk. Only allow 30 seconds max for the engine to warm up in the morning unless it's below 20F. Then give it a minute. Turn the engine off when waiting for someone for more than a minute.
Hehe... I was going to say that too... (don't drive). Pump gas at night when temperatures are lower. It has to do with gas expansion and contraction. When it's hotter, it expands, and takes up more volume (space if you can call that). So you will get more gas for your money at lower temperatures. Also check out www.fueleconomy.gov for different gas prices in stations near your area.
Go hybrid!! Its gonna pay off in the long run!
Make sure your tire pressures are the correct setting. Make sure your tires are balanced and aligned. When driving off use gentle acceleration where possible. Gentle braking if possible. Maintain average speeds of 60 mph. When you cold start the car in the morning...give it 30 secs to warm up before driving off. Try and use overdrive gear as much as possible. Take the car for service regularly and use high quality oil.
