I just got my first new laptop. Any tips and advice and what programs should I install first?

Hey, guys! I just got the new Asus N20A and I just want to know some things before I ruin it. Can you give any tips and advice? Could you also make a list of programs that I should install?





Last question: How do I know if I can put a SIM card in my laptop for 3G connecting?

To know if your laptop can be accessible for a SIM CARD:





1.First look for a slot in the side or the bottom of the laptop and open it.


2.Key in or put the SIM card properly in the slot.


3.In the screen of your laptop a notification will appear.


4.That notification will tell you everything.





Note:Well, SIM cards slot depends on what laptop you have. Usually it is available only to newly release laptops in certain brands.





What you wanted to have in a brand new laptop is:





1.A reliable Antivirus Software-having a new laptop needs proper care and maintenance, one of that maintenance is having an antivirus so your new laptop wont have any virus, malware or spyware from the start.





2. Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader- it is for opening important PDF files and for opening flash-related files. It is very important because every files in the net right now is filled with this files.
I don't think that there are any laptops that could have a SIM card inserted. Just read the manuals provided with your laptop but I think you'll need to purchase a PCI card or something equivalent.





The most important programs to install first are anti-virus software, microsoft office or openoffice.org, instant messaging software, updates, and Mozilla Firefox for faster internet connection.





I don't know what you're going to use the laptop for so i can only give you the essentials.
Last first: you can't put a 3G card in a laptop for connecting to a call network. SIM cards are specific to phones.





For software, that depends on what you wish to do. If you need an office suite (word processor, spreadsheet), use Open Office. It's as good as Microsoft Office and it's free.





You'll probably want to install two things from Adobe: Acrobat reader and Flash. Both are free.





And if you're using swodniW, you better make sure you have some kind of security software installed, like AVG and SpyBot. Both are free.
It depends on which things you wanna work weather its for writing or designing. If it is for writing then install Microsoft Office full package and if you wanna do designing task so install Adobe Photoshop, illustrator etc. Sim card are for mobile phones not for laptops.
download a anti-virus program and install it...i use avg ,,,but avast is good also





check you firewall setting..make sure its on...if using a router, usually they have a firewall setting,,,make sure its on...i usually use the router firewall, and disable windows.

I guess you should have bought Windows based laptop. Though the Operating system has a in built firewall, try installing a third party firewall and antivirus. Always for best results, use AVG free anti virus edition. Then you should get to go normally without any problem. All the best and happy computing :)
most important things are to install antivirus and antispyware, avast or avg free editions are good, and for spyware, spyware doctor and malwarebytes are very good.





also make sure your windows has the very latest windows security patches
