Replacing a Toyota V6 with a 4 cylinder in a 4Runner any tips or advice?

I have a 4Runner and want to replace the V6 with a 22R 4 cylinder engine to save gas. The V6 is tired anyway. Has anyone reading this ever done it? Will it cost a ridiculous amount and make me crazy? I will have the pick-up that the 4 cyl. comes from, will the motor mounts transfer? Will the accelerator linkage alone be a full on project?Replacing a Toyota V6 with a 4 cylinder in a 4Runner any tips or advice?
Why?

The 4 cylinder has to work harder to get that brick on wheels moving.

MPG gains = minimal at best.

Good idea in theory, bad in reality. Check MPG figures for a 4Runner at fueleconomy.gov and see the minimal difference in MPGs.Replacing a Toyota V6 with a 4 cylinder in a 4Runner any tips or advice?
You will probably need to fab up your own mounts, good luck.
The whole thing is a project. And no the motor mounts won't work.
